Laser Doppler anemometry: recent developments and future challenges
نویسنده
چکیده
The availability of new optical and electronic components and the increasing demands on measurement accuracy have led to a continuous development of the laser Doppler measurement technique in recent years. This article reviews the developments in optical systems, signal processing, data processing and in the application of LDA systems. Particular emphasis is placed on examining how well present instruments meet the changing needs of the fluid mechanics community and what improvements would be desirable in the near future. Cam Tropes was born in instrumentation developments in the field of laser Doppler Toronto, Canada, where he alSO a,,ended the University anemometry, rather than on the broad range of applications. of Toronto to earn a BASc NO new results are presented, hut some attempt is made in Engineering Science and to evaluate the importance of the respective developments, an MASc in Mechanical Enimplicitly through the choice of material presented and gineering. Flow Generated by an Aerated Rushton Impeller: Two-phase PIV Experiments and Numerical Simulations
Experiments Most publications of velocity measurements in stirred tanks concern measurements in single-phase flows. An excellent review of these studies was made by Ranade and Joshi (1990a). Literature concerning velocity measurements in aerated stirred tanks is scarcer however. An overview of literature is given in Table 1. Lu and Ju (1987) used constant temperature anemometry (CTA) in order t...
متن کاملThe application of time series analysis to Laser Doppler Anemometry data
Turbulence data is analysed with time series analysis. The data was measured in a shallow flow facility with Laser Doppler Anemometry (LDA). A regularly sampled signal is extracted from the irregular LDA-data using Nearest Neighbor Resampling (NNR). NNR is used because it is robust and provides an unbiased estimate of the variance. From the resampled signal a time series model is estimated. The...
متن کاملLaser Doppler anemometry measurements of steady flow through two bi-leaflet prosthetic heart valves
INTRODUCTION In vitro hydrodynamic characterization of prosthetic heart valves provides important information regarding their operation, especially if performed by noninvasive techniques of anemometry. Once velocity profiles for each valve are provided, it is possible to compare them in terms of hydrodynamic performance. In this first experimental study using laser doppler anemometry with mecha...
متن کاملSizing of inhomogeneous particles by a differential laser Doppler anemometer
A particle moving across the interference pattern of two intersecting laser beams scatters the incident light with a temporal variation that enables the calculation of particle velocity. This idea was realized in laser Doppler anemometry (LDA). By recording the light scattering pattern with a fast line scan sensor, the spatial modulation of the signal is also detected. This yields, in addition ...
